To honour the life, legacy and story-telling of the late Associate Professor Hugh Laracy, his students, colleagues, friends and family are raising funds to establish the Hugh Laracy Pacific History Memorial Prize. This prize will encourage excellence in the study of Pacific History with a financial award to the top student at first year level.

After completing his PhD at the Australian National University, where he was in the first generation of academically-trained Pacific historians, Hugh joined the History Department at the University of Auckland, where he was the first to teach Pacific history. Hugh was a talented, energetic and popular teacher and is greatly missed.
