Multi-disciplinary learning and research is of growing significance in solving some of the most challenging problems facing our fast evolving world. It is teams of researchers and expert practitioners from previously siloed disciplines who, working in creative collaborations, have been responsible for breakthrough discoveries and ground-breaking innovation.
The Faculty of Engineering, in consultation with New Zealand’s leading engineering companies and industry groups, recognises there is a need for today’s graduate engineers to have a more fully-rounded cross-disciplinary skill set to operate successfully in a fast changing environment.
The current redevelopment of the Engineering building in Symonds Street will incorporate a range of multi-disciplinary learning spaces. Flexible layouts will enable equipment and other kit to be added and removed as required.
The innovative laboratories will transform the way students are taught, injecting practical engineering into strong theory. They will allow new teaching styles and research capability, preparing students for the new working environment.
