As a ‘mature’ student at the University of Auckland, (previously I had been a teacher), I was inspired by the exciting opportunity to study philosophy and revelled in the academic environment. It was so exciting to discover new ideas and ways of understanding the world. I loved it so much, that apart from a couple of ventures into the corporate world, I have worked here since and have held several positions including managing the university student recruitment team and setting up and managing a student centre in NICAI. I also wrote a book about career development for school leavers ‘Who You Are is What You Do’ as I found while recruiting students in high schools that many of them had no idea what direction they should take after graduating.
My current role as Development Manager of the faculty brings together many of the skills and strengths I have developed over the years and I am pleased to be fostering relationships and raising funds so that others might have the opportunity I enjoyed so much as a student, to have an in-depth education.
